The Gwynedd Spaniel Club held an A/V Spaniel trial at The Astley Moss Estate, Lancashire, by kind invitation of Bill and Gary Bailey, and supported by the guns.
The day was overcast, very still, the ground was wet so scenting conditions were pretty good.
We started off with our A Panel Judging John Edwards on the right, hunting up a ditch with trees each side and beds of bracken and bramble very tough in parts but held plenty of game. Anita Jones our N/P Judge on the left was in falling bracken, game was not plentiful but was certainly enough to keep dogs and guns alert.
The day continued much the same cover from bracken, bramble, heather, wooded copse and deep weeds mixed with bracken, game was coming to hand well and all the dogs were thoroughly tested.
John and Anita got together and called for two dogs for a run off, Helmsway Happy David Ferrier and Birdrowe Dinah Rob Jones, with their minds made up the trial was declared over.
1st Helmway Happy - David Ferrier
2nd Birdrowe Dinah - Rob Jones
3rd Burntwood Briar - R Lewis

The Secretary thanked Bill and Gary for a super day, thanks were given to the stewards, game carriers and to Veronica Selby for all her help at the Gwynedd Trial.
The guns Mike, Jim, Jonathon and Martin all shot well and deserve special thanks for helping to support the trial financially, along with our sponsor Skinners Pet Foods.
A special award of a lovely thumb stick, kindly donated by Rob Evans, was made by the Judges to the dog they would most like to take home which was Burntwood Briar - R Lewis.
David Ferrier gave the customary thanks to the judges and Gwynedd Spaniel Club for organising the trial.
